Two Maryland-based amateurs in particular have made tile most of decades in the business. William “Billy9 Meistar and Joe GiUet Davies have successfully tackled some of the toughest courses on the abbreviated amateur circuit: My Lady’s Manor, the Grand National and the Maryland Hunt Cup. Both have ridden and won against professionals in open company at the Virginia Gold Cup and the fell International Gold Cup.
While the Virginia Gold Cup is open to both professional jockeys and amateurs, in the last 25 years the amateurs have dominated this race with the professionals only winning a handful of times. Another Maryland
