On the North
Rail? The South Rail? Members Hill? From the back of the Mini, the pickup, the Jeep or the Jag?
Saturday's Virginia Gold Cup races offer everything a steeplechase fan could want in an al fresco feast: colorful action in the background, ample parking spaces in the foreground and a sizzling griD to the side.
But figuring out what to pack can torture even the moat experienced tailgate partier.
A satisfying tailgate picnic can range from fried chicken and cold beer to smoked salmon and iced champagne Just remember, this isn't the Redskins and Great Meadow isn't FedEx Field. Swards of grass greet racegoers rather than diesel fumes wafting from the Beltway, and serene quiet surrounds the course, rather than boisterous Cowboys boosters.
A successful Gold Cup picnic is all in the planning.
