A few more layers have been added to the zoning sniffle centered around Mountainside Medicine.
Dr. John McCue wants to hire more employees and expand the parking area on his property, located on U.S. 211 west of the Town of Washington, to meet the demands of his growing number of patients.
The doctor already has an application pending before the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors that would rezone the property from agricultural to commercial to allow him to make those changes.
4 But McCue has faced opposition from a couple of neighboring property owners who say the 2-acre lot is not fit for commercial zoning and fear what businesses may move into the space if the doctor decides to sell the property in the future.
On April 18 at the monthly meeting of the County Planning Commission, McCue tried a different tack.
As represented by his attorney Bill Fletcher, McCue proposed four amendments to the county’s zoning ordinance that would create “small” and “large” classifications for professional offices.
A small office would employ three or fewer employees and a large office would employee four or more employees.
