The route
Dominion’s proposed line would connect a power substation in Winchester with one near Areola in Loudoun County.
Besides Rappahannock, Frederick and Loudoun, the proposed line would pass through parts of Culpeper, Fauquier, Frederick, Loudoun, Prince William and Warren counties.
Dominion’s proposed route, previously called the “preferred” path, parallels and uses existing utility right of way. Still, the company would need to acquire a considerable amount of additional right of way to build the new line.
The massive application also shows alternative routes that roughly track Interstate 66 and would use Virginia Department of Transportation right of way.
Among other things, Dominion likely will be questioned by the SCC about its preference for the more expensive and circuitous path through Rappahannock, southern Fauquier and Culpeper counties to link the two substations.
