“None of the reporting is 100 percent [accurate because] doctors are human,” she said, adding that reporting is still a* vital tool for identifying and treating disease, as general awareness is important.
Both Rappahannock doctors’ offices believe the county to be a bit “Lyme crazy” in that citizens frequently overreact to simple insect bites. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention suggests to doctors a patient’s skin rash be at least five centimeters in diameter before diagnosing Lyme clinically.
Even so, some patients slip through the cracks.
