Principal Roger Mello
Thanking the parents, Eric and Elizabeth Hilscher, for the privilege of working with their two children, principal of the Rappahannock County High School Roger Mello spoke admiringly of the parents. “They always “were there’ for their children. Regardless of the scope of any assignment, Emily would say, ‘Oh, my father will do that—and he would.”’
In the Common’s hallway Mello had signed a wall of remembrances with students. In his note, Mello wrote: “Thank you for the many lessons you taught me. You didn’t get to change the world, but you changed OUR world.”
As a tribute to Emily, Mello asked her Class of2006 to stand. He proudly noted that of the 92 members of that class, 72 went on to college. “That is a measure of the talent we have in our Rappahannock schools,” he concluded.
