pie, have lost touch with the issue of fidelity. We, the people, have lost touch with our historic roots and traditions. Neither Mr. Gore nor Mr. Bush is the answer to what America needs. Who we elect will reflect who we are.
Mr. Bird's article brings home a point of serious concern. I fear that we the people have fallen from our Biblical traditions and replaced them with man-made philosophies, including those of the Chinese. If so, the election of Mr. Gore will simply be a reflection of that fact. It will mean what we the people have chosen the wisdom of man over the wisdom of God and have departed from the traditions of our founding fathers. I hope this is not the case. Time will tell.
While change is inevitable and at times necessary, we need to understand the consequences of any changes we make. Biblical principles are what make us a nation of laws and not of men. To replace those principles with man-made principles will inevitably erode that foundation and lead us to become a nation controlled by men and not laws.
Mr. Gore reflects those who believe that government should solve all of our problems from health care to social security, from cradle to grave. History demonstrates that when we put our trust in government, we lose individual rights. Moreover, government is inefficient and non-responsive to individual needs.
The Biblical model places our trust in a "higher authority." When we put our trust in government, we come in conflict with that model. Our founding fathers understood these philosophical issues and chose to restrict the power of federal government and to preserve the rights of the individual. The "man" we elect is of far less significance than the philosophy that man represents.
I believe we have already gone too far down the road of big government. Mr. Gore represents a philosophy that will lead us further down that road. For now, the choice belongs to the American people. I fear if we go too far down the path of big government, we will no longer have a choice. Like the Chinese, we will have the right, indeed the duty, to vote. However, there will only be one choice on the ballot- the candidate selected by the Communist party. As for me, I choose individual rights. I choose freedom.
