Rappahannock Sheriff Larry Sherertz announced this week that law enforcement officers will be mounting a "focused effort" to ensure that the 35 mile-perhour speed limits in the county's two public school zones are strictly observed.
The effort is part of the Save Our Students (SOS) Program designed to protect young people from traffic hazards, according to Sherertz.
The school zones for both the Rappahannock County High School and the Elementary School are on U. S. 211 west of Washington.
According to Sherertz, drivers are not paying attention to the posted limits, which are in effect when the students begin arriving in the morning and again in the afternoon when they depart.
