Husband Bruce, an ichthyologist (a scientist who studies fish), helps name the foals. The names of all Pageland foals born in a particular year begin with the same letter of the alphabet, so as to quickly identify a horse's age. In trolling the depths of the Jockey Club computers for thoroughbred names not yet used, the Collettes probably have less trouble than other breeders in securing their first choice for a homebred moniker.
The Collettes bought Pageland in 1977. At that time, they owned two horses, a riding horse and one to sell. Pretty soon, a friend loaned her a mare to get start her own breeding business.
