Virginia racing moves back to Colonial Sept. 30 for an innovative "exhibition" race over hurdles. Set up by members of the Virginia Horsemen's Association as a trial event at the pari-mutuel course, the $5,000 maiden hurdle race will not count towards a horse’s official record — like the winner of a point-to-point race, the winner will not lose his maiden conditions for NSA races. Additional prize money is available with $2,500 split among Virginia-bred horses finishing in the top six. Post time is 2 p.m. for the steeplechase; regular post time for races on Colonial's flat card is 3 p.m.
The 46th annual Virginia Fall Races extend over two days, Oct. 7 and 8, at Glenwood Park in Middleburg. Saturday's card is NSA-sanctioned, with the Sunday program split between NSA and VSA-sanction. Post time both days is 2 p.m.
