Robert F. Kennedy Jr., one of America's leading environmental attorneys, will be the keynote speaker at the Piedmont Environmental Council's annual meeting Saturday, Sept. 23. The meeting will be held at Linden Lane Farm, Route 231, Keswick, Va.
Mr. Kennedy has become a legal pioneer in the area of municipal and government responsibility for environmental problems. As chief prosecuting attorney for the Hudson Riverkeepers, he has been instrumental in the successful clean-up of New York's Hudson River. He also is senior attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council.
In his speech, Mr. Kennedy will address the proper role of advocacy, including legal advocacy, in protecting our land and our natural resources. PEC is one of few organizations in the United States that combines a strong program of advocacy on land use issues including smart growth, along with land conservation work that involves helping landowners to place easements on their property.
