Apparently it has been a fine year for hummingbirds. For weeks I have received letters, telephone calls and innumerable personal comments regarding the numbers of hummingbirds swarming around feeders.
It's not unusual to have these feisty birds around in great numbers in September. By late summer the hummingbird population includes successfully fledge young-of-theyear, the adults that produced these young, plus early migrants on their way to the American tropics.
