Owner Ray Moffett Jr. says that older steeplechasers like Double Found, an amazing 14 this year, are doubly popular on the local circuit because of their success and longevity. A winner of more than $300,000 on the flat before turning to hurdle racing, Double Found has won 19 races at local point-to-points and sanctioned steeplechase races for his owner and Middleburg trainer Dot Smithwick. The bay son of Nodouble, bred by the late Jack Kent Cooke’s Elmendorf Farm in Kentucky, was the Virginia pointto-point hurdle horse of the year in 1999. He won four races last year. Moffett said that, as of press time, the gelding was training for the fall season.
