game the Lady Panthers could not seem to take charge and capture their first win. Despite a hustling, energetic 16 points from Gwen Johnson, the varsity fell 44-38. Despite the loss, Coach Mike Dayton can see the improvement in his girls. "We were in it until the end, we've just got to find a way to be on the other end of the close ones."
This week has three games for our girls and the district opener is at home against the Brentsville Tigers.
Cross country.
The varsity cross country team also competed this past week. Traveling to Page County for a non-district dual meet, the cross country team faced a good Page County boys' team over a tough three mile course.
Phillip Thomas and Chris Graves led the RCHS guys but only managed to get to sixth and eleventh place. John Sheffield and Chris Ehrhart also competed for RCHS.
Page County didn’t field a girls' team so the Lady Panthers ran the challenging course for time against one another. Rachel Sharp finished first ahead of Alyssa Berry by eight seconds. Both coaches Mike Weir and Mark Ramey are pleased with the progress to date of both the boys and the girls.
