Now the horse is developed in mind, perhaps, but not in body. The steeplechase trainer enters the picture. He prescribes the fitness program, giving our horse the tools — musculature,athleticism, ability — to perform.

Along the way, other puzzle pieces of the hay farmer, the feed store operator and the tack shop owner swell the crowd. Our horse needs regular veterinary care, quality shoeing, suitable fencing, safe transport — all of these are part of it.

At last, race day arrives. The jockey suits up for his role in this game. The race. Perhaps victory. A silver cup, a crystal vase. A prize to the victor.
