A brand new 1983 Mercedes Benz was declared a total loss after a three car accident on Route 522 Saturday night.
Police say damage amounted to $35,000 to the Mercedes. Its driver, Walter Nicholls, Jr., of Front Royal, was charged with driving under the influence and reckless driving.
State trooper Harry Newlin says the accident happened on Route 522 near 662 at about 11 p.m. Nicholls was southbound on 522 and was negotiating a curve when he allegedly swerved into the path of a 1979 Mercury driven by Karen Minnis of Winchester. When she
