The Free State Ramblers, the host band for the tribute, is the country string band John Ashby founded and played with for over 40 years. The band has continued with some new additions to play dances, concerts, and festivals in this area and are probably more popular now than ever. This past week, the Free State Ramblers won the 8th Best Band Award (out of 168 bands competing) at the National Old Time Fiddler’s Convention at Galax.
