“Of course. I was bom on a farm and most farm families did not have it as rough as others. We had produce, gardens, a place to live.
“1 do remember my father selling cattle for SVj cents a pound in those days. That was the price for full grown cattle.
“I remember very vividly beggars coming to our house to ask for something to eat. Our home was near the road. My mother almost always gave them something. They were people drifting around the country and my mother always felt it was better to give them something to eat rather than to turn them down. And I know she felt sorry for them.
