Rain at this point will help replenish the wells, but the growing season is shot, says Sperryville weather watcher Dennis Wingfield. “Whatever we get now I guess goes towards next year,’’ he said Tuesday.

Throughout the summer Wingfield has kept the statistics to show just how dry it’s been—at least in Sperryville. His latest batch of figures reveal a total rainfall since July 1 of 6.08 inches. There were 11.47 inches during the same period last vear.

68.1%
