a temporary facility, is almost filled and may be closed within the next few months. The site is a privately owned and operated landfill on Clifton Clark’s property near Woodville.

If another county cannot be found which would be willing to accept Rappahannock’s trash, the county may decide to negotiate with the Harrisonburg Resource Recovery Facility to accept the trash.

Another possibility which has been under discussion is the opening of a second dump site in Rappahannock. This proposal has met with opposition. Last fall, Rappahannock’s Solid Waste Management Advisory Committee recommended that “All solid waste should be transported out of the county and any operating landfill should be closed at the earliest possible date.”
