“The match that stands out in my mind the most is the first match when we were totally untried with no idea of how we would do,” recalled Mr. Flinchum. “We drew St. Anne’s Belfield School which is a private school in Charlottesville. We beat them by a margin of twentyfive to thirty percent. I’m not sure who was more surprised, we or they. But we were quite pleased.”

Fellow Coach Cindy Wayland feels that a winning team is one w’hose members have confidence in each other. They need to work together and avoid having one member dominating the answering of questions. She feels that the RCHS team possesses these characteristics.

Both coaches agreed that the support given to the members by fellow students is a great help. “It seems that the Pop Quiz teams don’t get as much respect as our team does here,” noted Mr. Flinchum.

The Pop Quiz team, coaches, a nd supporters competed against Charlottesville High School on February 18. Results of the match can be seen on Thursday, February 20, at 8 p.m. on Channel 51 from Harrisonlmrg or Channel U2 from Front Royal.
