NSHA Racing Secretary William Gallo Jr. reports from Belmont Park, N. Y., that total purses for the spring meetings will reach $900,000 — up $100,000 from 1985.
“In 1985 a record $1,737,195 was distributed to NSHA horsemen,” Mr. Gallo said. “That figure will surely be topped again in 1986, with $2 million well within reach. And that does not include additional bonus money from our new circuit sponsor, Chase Manhattan Bank, which is about to announce a unique competition for brush horses that will offer $50,000 in prize money at the end of the year.”
