A schedule of 21 days of racing on the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association circuit this spring brings a promise of the best in that organization’s 117-year history.
A new fixture near Cincinnati, Ohio, is a candidate for immediate stardom when it holds its inaugural meeting on May 17, while all 11 weekends beginning in Aiken, S.C., on March 22 have made improvements in both purse monies offered to horsemen and to their race courses.
Palm Beach steeplechase, originally scheduled to open the season in early March, has postponed its meet due to sponsorship difficulties, but sources there indicate the hunt meet will return to action next year.
However, the Mason-Dixon steeplechase promises to be the event on the Mid-West spring circuit. Aptly named by its chairmen Mandy and John Barbara, the meet is a “hands across the river” effort between sportsmen in Cincinnati
