To show their ability to follow a scent, the foxhounds will race around the timber course on the trail of a drag scent. In years past several foxhounds have lost, or given up on the scent for more interesting scents in the woods and hills beyond the course, and the first hound to finish, and win, the race is not always the fastest hound.
Blue Ridge Hunt
On Saturday, March 8, the point-to-point circuit moves close to the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains for the Blue Ridge Hunt’s races at Woodley Farm near Berry ville.
Once again, there will be nine races, but, first of all, starting at 10 a.m., there will be hunter pair races for adult optimum and fast time, and junior optimum time.
Following the pair races, the regular races begin at 12:30 p.m. The First Colony owner-rider hurdle field will be the first off, to be followed by an open flat race of 1%miles.
