Wakefield completed its winter sports program this week, the highlight of which were the ski races held ■ at Bryce Resort in Bayse.
More than 170 students from the kindergarten through Grade 12 participate in the ski program at Bryce. The students are enrolled in 20 different classes on the basis of their age and ability level.
On the final day of.the ski program, students participated in four different contests. All classes competed for bronze, silver and gold medals for skills and speed. In addiction, the most advanced skiers comjeted in two national contests: rJASTAR, a Ski Magazine program > administered by the World Wide Ski Corporation in Aspen, Colorado, is a test of speed, and the Star Test competition rates skiers on skill levels.
In the NASTAR competition, students race comparing their times against the time set by the fastest skier in America. In this competition, Morgan Andreae of Front Royal was awarded a gold medal. Silver medals were earned by Timmy Andreae and Tobias and Florian Dengel, all of Front Royal, Phelph Lane of Woodville and Rebecca Sheehy of Rileyville. Fourteen bronze medals were also awarded to Wakefield students.
