In the world of point-to-point and steeplechase racing, it can be tough for a stallion to build a reputation for himself.
Horses that race over fences come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Some may be old hunters that jumped well and their owners wanted to see how they would do racing over fences. Some might be old show horses that couldn’t win ribbons, but sure could jump. Others might be ex-flat race horses whose last stop before the big race course in the sky is racing over fences.
With all these extremely different types of horses racing over fences, it’s rare for a stallion to produce more than one or two good jumpers in his lifetime.
