At the Virginia Association ol Realtors (VAR) annual leadership conference in Richmond recently, plans were discussed regarding community activities to be sponsored by the VAR. Prominent among the plans is a program to be sponsored by the VAR in conjunction with the local Piedmont Board of Realtors called “Runaway Children.”
Among the local Realtors attending the meeting were Bruce and Suzannah Herndon, Eileen and Kevin Day, Michael Miller, Dick CltSFe, Martha Hust, Linda Kirby, Sally McDevitt, Jo Ann Colvin and board president Buzz O’Toole.
In light of alarming statistics regarding the number of missing children, the VAR is concerned about this growing problem. Since 97 percent of missing children are runaways, the association is sponsoring a program to reduce these numbers and reach children before they leave honwr-The VAR will- be raising money to help sponsor a theater group’s presentation of a production called “Runners.”
The group will travel around the state making itself available to schools that want to participate. The 45 minute musical production, dealC

camporee
The Shenrapawa District of the Shenandoah Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, will hold their Winter Camporee on February 21, 22 and 23 at the farm of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Eastham, Ben Venue. The hosts are Troop 36 of Flint Hill and Troop 123 of Washington.
The troops will register and set up their campsites during the morning on Saturday.
The theme for this campaign is Communications. During the activity period Saturday afternoon, the troops will compete in three events based on communication skills. The events are based on the Scout skills of Morse code signaling, semaphore signaling and trail signs.
Anyone interested in watching the events is invited to the camporee site between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Other activities scheduled for the camporee are a liquid fuel training course for leaders and a campfire on Saturday. A church service and closing ceremony is scheduled for Sunday. The Shenrapawa District provides a Scouting experience throughout Shenandoah, Rappahannock, Page and Warren Counties.
