On Sunday, March 16, at the Tufts’ Grove farm near Warrenton, foxhunters will compete in the season’s fourth series of pair races. Optimum, fast and junior divisions will be offered over a course of about 2V2 miles of fair hunting country.
Piedmont Hunt
The half-way mark of the season will be hosted by the Piedmont Hunt of Upperville at Mrs. A. C. Randolph’s Salem Farm on Saturday, March 22.
Hunter pair races, for adult optimum pairs only, start the meet at 11 a.m. Regular races begin at 1:30 p.m. with a six furlong flat race for riders who have never won under rules. Another six furlong flat race, for licensed flat riders, follows.
The first jump race of the day is the owner-rider hurdle race over V/2 miles. An open hurdle and a maiden hurdle race follow. The sixth race of the day is the ownerrider timber race over Piedmont’s gruelling three mile timber course. After the owner-riders, the ladies take to the timber course.
