Mrs. Morgenstieme
Marjorie Munthe Morgenstieme, 84, mother of Mrs. Bernard Dahlgren of Huntly, died Feb. 15 of a lung ailment at George Washington University Hospital.
She was the widow of Wilhelm Munthe Morgenstieme, Norwegian ambassador to the United States from 1942 until he retired in 1958. At the time of his retirement he was dean of the diplomatic corps in Washington.
A native of Winnipeg, Mrs. Morgenstieme came to Washington in 1933 when her husband was first assigned here.
During World War II she did volunteer work for the Red Cross, including collecting supplies and knitting clothing for Norwegian soldiers in exile who were fighting against Germany. She was awarded the King Haakon VII Medal and the Grand Cross of the Order of St. Olav.
Her husband died in 1963. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Dahlgren and Mrs. Oscar Padilla-Vidaurre of Bethesda, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be conducted Thursday at noon at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 1820 Connecticut Ave. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
