A Valentine dance was held February 15 at which time this year’s officers received a corsage. The officers are president-Debbie Pullen, vice president-Wendy Burke, secretary-Anne McKenzie, treasurer-Lisa Whorton, historianDannette Hickerson, and photographer-Edie Eastham.
'Senior Debbie Pullen has been president of FHA for three years. Mrs. Wood described her years of service. “Debbie is always willing to work. She comes up with a lot of innovative ideas and helps to carry them through. Debbie is a good manager. Last year she made some excellent decisions concerning the fashion show.”
“Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Pullen, Debbie’s parents, were awarded an honorary chapter membership for -their outstanding contributions made to the progress of the Home Economics Education program and the Future Homemakers of America in Virginia. They supported Debbie every step of the way,” stated Mrs. Wood.
“Our main focus for the whole year is community awareness. We visit nursing homes and go to the elementary school and work with the kindergarten children each year,” explained Mrs. Wood. “I think it’s important to be with people of all ages to create a better understanding of the world. Exposing the students to other people and their needs may help them find an occupation that they’re interested in.”
FHA prepares its members for homemaking including consumer education for personal and family use. Instruction in child rearing, nutrition, clothing, family, home, and personal management is provided.
