The proposed transportation district tentatively would include Prince William, Manassas, Manassas Park, Stafford County and Fredericksburg, although it could include “any contiguous counties or cities . . . which together constitute an urban area.”
Loudoun County has expressed interest in joining the district, because it could use revenue it raised thrpiigh the fuel tax for . its ©yen transportation needs, which are almost exclusively road construction. Fauquier also could join it.
“It’s the only practical way to deal with a problem that doesn’t begin and end within the boundaries of a single county,” said Del. Robert T. Andrews (R-Fairfax/Loudoun).
The tax would match the local tax impose in jurisdictions that are members of the Northern Virginia Transportation District, which applies the money to the Metro rail system.
