Maybe in their discussions of raising revenues our supervisors should look into similar taxation for those of us who are not farmers or merchants? How should we tax those working outside the county, or those on a cash basis? I suggest that the supervisors, in their day, chose not to brave this guagmire, and relied on the simplest and most accountable, or even most assessable thing that we all have in common— our houses and lots, and real estate. Further, it has been demonstrated that farm and open land costs the taxpayer nothing, but in fact subsidizes residential development. People are taxes. We all have the right to pay taxes.
