On December 10 the Pop Quiz team played Western Albemarle High School. Western Albemarle was ahead all the way through the match until Captain Will Oliver took a stab at the last ques- , tion and tied the score. That took them to sudden death overtime. Jonathan Watson answered the first sudden death question to win the game with a score of 235225.
Mr. Flinchum said, “This is the highest point total of any match this year. The pressure of having to fight back against adult teams in training made our students used to being in a position where they had to fight back.”
Captain Will Oliver felt that his job is particularly difficult at times. “When we get to the bonus questions several answers are thrown at me by team members and I have to decide which answer to give. I’m not supposed to show favoritism between the team members so sometimes it’s really hard.”
There are three parts in a game. Jonathan Watson said he thought the category round is the most difficult. “The category round is right before the speed round. Everything slows down and it’s hard to get our speed back up. The team writes down the answers to the category round in order to keep our minds working fast for the speed round.”
Mr. Flinchum said, “This is our fourth year of competition. We have an overall record of seven wins and three losses. Our first year we went to the quarter finals, which means we were in the top eight of thirty-two teams. The second year we went to the semi-finals which means we were in the top four. Last year we went to the second round which meant we were in
