Sperryville plans apple festival
The Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department and Auxiliary will be holding their first fireman’s Apple Festival on Saturday, Oct. 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the carnival grounds. There will be fun for the entire family including a quilt contest, a pumpkin pie contest, crafts and lots of good food. %
The Sperryville Auxiliary is seeking contestants to enter their handmade quilts and homemade apple and pumpkin pies. To enter your quilts or pies call Charlotte Jenkins at 987-8683 before 7 p.m. No calls after 7 please. The auxiliary is also looking for craft vendors. Anyone who would like to be a part of the festival or would like more information call Diane Weakley at 987-8275 or Marsha Thompson at 987-8530.
Fundraiser underway
The Rappahannock County High School Athletic Boosters are beginning their main fundraiser of the year.
For a donation of only $20 you could be eligible to win a grand prize of $1,000; a second place prize of $750 or a third place prize of $250. Prizes will be given away at the last boy’s basketball game in December. You do not need to be present to win. There will be only 200 tickets printed.
Proceeds benefit the athletes at the high school and the athletic department. Tickets are available from any RCHS coach, at any home game or from any of the following Booster Club members: Nancy and Calvin Atkins, Monte and Lisa Clinedinst or Cheryl Taylor.
Cooking class offered
Hartland Wellness Center and Culpeper Seventh Day Adventist Church are co-sponsoring a cooking class at Culpeper Library on Monday, Sept. 27. The healthy eating for weight management class will cost $5 per person. Preregister by calling 672-3100, extension 240.
