Age: 49 Residence: Washington Married, no children A) Presently, the majority of the county’s budget is composed of salaries and services which are required by state and federal guidelines. Salaries for county employees, law enforcement, emergency services and public schools are among them. These services appear to be adequate and efficient. While some improvements, in efficiency and focus may be possible and desirable, a significant tax reduction seems unlikely. As a result of imaginative care by previous supervisors, the county is able to effectively provide those services needed by its citizens given its limited tax base. Public and private cooperation should be encouraged to provide needed services at the lowest cost possible. B) The county must maintain volunteer fire and rescue services. Currently, the volunteer fire and rescue companies provide outstanding services with extreme cost effectiveness and commitment. The county government must work with imagination and flexibility to enable the volunteer companies to continue to provide excellent service at incredibly low cost. To duplicate the service currently provided by our six county companies would be terribly expensive.
