Gold, most precious metal on earth, will be front and center at the Oct. 16 International Gold Cup races at Great Meadow in.The Plains.
The prize for the eponymous feature event is the fabulous King of Spain bowl, given for the first International Gold Cup at Grasslands Downs in Tennessee in 1930 by King Alfonso XIII.
Though the International has moved twice since its inception, the cup remains the mainstay of the classic event. This year’s International Gold Cup will not only offer the solid gold prize, a $50,000 purse is sponsored, by Lincoln. The cup stays with the lucky winning owner for one year; 50 percent of the purse is theirs to keep.
