A) To provide services for the citizens of the county I think the budget and taxes are reasonable. This tax base maintains the school system that the state mandates, provides a sanitary landfill, which is also state mandated, supports fire and rescue operations, supports the library and all other services.
The composite index and the lack of a commercial tax base is why the taxes fall on personal property and lapd. I think looking for clean industry would help reduce taxes on property owners. This may work against keeping the rural character of the county. I think any tax is too much, but taxes are necessary to operate a viable county. B) I think the county can maintain a volunteer fire and rescue service. It does require volunteers that have the time to participate in the training requirements which are very extensive. I think these volunteer companies give each community its own identity. This gives everyone pride in their community and support to the overall community.
