As Sheriff, I have been successful in establishing a School Resource Officer program for the Rappahannock schools. The “Directed Patrol” concepts that we currently utilize assigns a deputy preventive patrol responsibilities in areas of probable criminal activity. Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office will provide a security inspection of your home and make recommendations for enhancements. Should current crime trends or events warrant an alert in the interest of public safety, notifications will be made to local news sources and-the affected communities by the Sheriff’s Office. B) Law enforcement has traditionally faced a "disconnect” from the public due in part to old style administrative policies that exclude constructive dialogue with the public and isolating officers from the community by archaic patrol practices. As Sheriff, I have undertaken a number of communications programs that will encourage a relationship with the public. Early this year I began organizing the Citizen’s Advisory Committee as a first step. As Sheriff, I maintain an “open door” policy with the public.
