The program is varied, with races scheduled on the flat for lady riders and maidens, hurdle races penned for maidens (previous non-winners) and open claimers (horses entered for a “tag” or price for which they can be purchased from this race.) The day’s feature is the $10,000 Bowman Bowl open timber race. All the day’s races are run over Belmont’s unique right-handed course — most American tracks, both flat and steeplechase, tend to be counterclockwise.
