spring the Council participated in a community service activity supporting the “Trash Free Rappahannock” program.
• The fourth and fifth grade instructional team is currently working with interested parents to improve the delivery of reading instruction to children in those grades. The team is looking at options to more efficiently provide instruction to students working at various levels.
• Our sixth-eighth grade middle school team is busy implementing a new and exciting approach. One of the first academic initiatives of the team is to provide a more focused and clearly defined plan to enrich students’ vocabulary. They are currently investigating several programs which help prepare students for the vocabulary portion of the^SAT test. Many colleges use the SAT as an element of their acceptance decisions.
• The School Council will be meeting in the coming weeks to plan the next staff development opportunity for teachers. Over the past year the Council, with funding from Headwaters, the Rappahannock County Public Education Foundation and the Greve Foundation, have provided several high quality training opportunities for our teaching sf,aff. Teachers are looking forward to the instructional assistance that will be offered at-the October session. ,
• Administrators, teachers, and a parent met on Tuesday, Sept. 14 to discuss options to improve the student pick up procedure after school at RCES Participants were encouraged by the constructive changes that were suggested at the meeting. Please be looking for a pew procedure shortly which will preserve instructional time, be safer for students and more convenient for parents.
