resulted in a different physical type of horse being selected for breeding. The modern thoroughbred is taller than the typical Arabian, although the Arabian, too, has increased in size due to improved nutrition and care.
A thoroughbred longer legs with their long thin muscles equals a faster horse. However, as Arabian racing increases in popularity, and families of Arabians are also selected for breeding based on speed as the sole controlling criterion, it can be expected that future generations of Arabians will follow the same developmental path as the thoroughbred, becoming taller and faster with each generation.
Several terms were used, more or less interchangeably, to describe Arabian horses in England and Europe. Certain characteristics in head ahd body type were associated with each name, but there was much disagreement, even among experts, concerning individual horses.
An Arabian could be called a “Barb,” meaning that it came from North Africa or the Iberian peninsula where Arab culture flourished. It could be a “Turk,” meaning that it came
