The fair weather last weekend may have been a boon for the Amissville carnival, but it continued to be a bane for Rappahannock farmers.
Weather watcher Dennis Wingfield of Sperryville reported the total rainfall for the month of June, including Tuesday, is 0.05 inch. That trace fell the evening of June 7. May provided a scant 2.02 inches.
Mr. Wingfield said that normal rainfall for May is 3.48 inches, while June should yield another 3.35 inches. Some adjustment for June to date produces an estimated normal rainfall of 5.18 inches from May 1 through this date of the month.
The actual precipitation for the 1'/2-month period this year is 2.07 inches.
