How is it, in light of such invisible forces and of so many mass-society people under their sway, that some people seem to stick out, by rising above or being oblivious to such influences?
What motivates them? WTiy do they bother with being busy?
Most important of all, what makes the best of them seem to be those driven to try to do what seems to be “good”?
I ask those “Why bother?” questions often, in almost every meeting I attend. I ask in sincerity, not out of cynicism, because I really do want to know what makes good people try to do good things.
Were they good people to begin with, and therefore good things are natural to them? If so, are non-doers of good just naturally bad people to begin with?
Probably not. Good people who do good things are usually called “responsible” people. “Responsible” implies that people are not by nature either good or bad, but both, and that they do good “in response to” something.
