an Arabian horse show just before the fireworks on the grounds of Avon Hall, home of William Carrigan, who has hosted the day’s grand finale for 25 years.

Columnist and author James Kilpatrick will be among the experienced ice cream dippers at Trinity Episcopal Church, which was built in 1856 by a workman who apprenticed under Thomas Jefferson at Monticello.

The church, First Washington’s Museum, and Rappahannock County Historical Society Building will all be open. Among the items in the Museum is a copy of the Congressional Record which identifies Washington, Virginia, as the first Washington in the United States.

There are also a number of antique and craft shops in the area including the Rush River Company, a craft cooperative, the Middle Street Gallery, an art cooperative, and Peter Kramer, cabinet maker.
