The organization attempts to promote voter awareness and patriotism by conducting open political seminars where candidates of all parties may speak and voters may examine candidate records.
Half of the net earnings from A Day in Horse Country will benefit Children’s Hospital, 15 percent will go to Great Meadow, and 35 percent will be divided among the federation and those groups who supported the event.
The funds given to the Children’s Hospital will help provide services for children like Claudia Compton of Amissville, a guest of honor at this weekend’s event, who was born with a defective heart. Because of Children’s Hospital Claudia is now a healthy, active 9-year-old.
“We don’t have any idea at all what kind of a turnout we’re going to have. It’s brand new and we don’t know if the public will accept it,” said Mrs. Timmerman. “You sit and chew nails like with anything new. I would like to have it be a big success so that everyone benefits from it.”
The gates at Great Meadow will open at 11 a.m., with events beginning at 11:30 a.m. and running through 5 p.m. General admission will be $15 for adults and $5 for children ages 5-12. Reserved parking spaces are available.
