She said there is always plenty to do to prepare for the weekends. Mrs. Clark uses only fresh ingredients, and most everything is made the same day. “Last week I made chicken salad three times!” She makes all her pies and cakes from scratch. Some of her recent successes have been a rich, dark chocolate fudge cake, several different varieties of pound cake and a coconut cake.

Mrs. Clark explained her feelings about ingredients: “I’d rather pay a little more (for the food) in order to please the customers. I like to give them good quality food.”

The menu includes hot and cold sandwiches and subs (egg salad, chicken salad, ham and cheese, turkey, Italian, and steak and cheese) as well as hand-patted fresh-ground hamburgers and cheeseburgers.

And there are, of course, homemade pies, cakes, cookies, brownies, or whatever else Mrs. Clark’s talented hands might decide to whip up. Fresh fruit pies will be available throughout the summer.

For early risers the snack bar has fresh-brewed coffee and pastries for sale when the market opens at 10 a.m.

The snack bar at the Sperryville Indoor Antique Market is open Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
