Local Marines
on deployment
Marine Cpl. Michael C. Brunelli and Lance Cpl. John D. McKay are currently on an amphibious training deployment.
Cpl. Brunelli is the son of Sheila H. Brunelli of Flint Hill. A 1982 graduate of Fauquier High School, he joined the Marines in August 1982.
Lance Cpl. McKay is the son of John D. and Helen E. McKay of Castleton. He was graduated from Rappahannock High School in 1984 and joined the Marines in August of that year.
The amphibious training deployment will involve more than 4,500 Marines and sailors aboard five ships.
Both men are stationed with the 24th Marine amphibious unit, homebased at Camp Lejeune, N. C.
Leake graduates
from Shepherd
Gary William Leake, Sperryville, was among the record class of more than 450 Shepherd College students receiving degrees at the college’s 113th commencement held May 17. Leake received the bachelor of arts degree in secondary education.
West Virginia Governor Arch A. Moore, Jr., in delivering the commencement address, told the graduates they are walking advertisements for higher education and termed getting an education “the best insurance policy you can buy.”
Shepherd College is a state-supported, multi-purpose institution in the Northern Shenandoah Valley. It offers 70 programs leading to fouryear and two-year degrees in business, the social sciences, education, the arts and sciences.
Gary Leake is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Leake of Sperryville.
