Washington, Virginia, is again inviting everyone who is looking for an old-fashioned all-American Fourth of July celebration to visit the picturesque village at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The celebration will offer everything from crafts and com on the cob to flag waving and fireworks, Roger P. Roach, chairman of the Volunteer Fire Department sponsored event, has announced.
Tree lined Gay Street, named in 1749 for his girl friend by the town’s surveyor, 17-year-old George Washington, will be the center of activity during the day. Festivities begin at 10 a.m. Antiques, crafts, com on the cob, ice cream cones, lemonade and watermelon are among the temptations to be sold on the street.
The day will also include a used book sale at the Rappahannock County Library, a patriotic program on the Court House lawn at noon, horse drawn wagon tours of the town (pop. 200), an antique car show and parade, live music throughout the day and a roast pig;.supper.
