People never cease to amaze.
All around us we find examples of active people whom we admire for their energy and activity. They build skyscrapers or financial empires, write books or laws, serve the poor or the hungering, cure the sick or heal social rifts, train or entertain.
Why?
What drives them onward and upward?
Have they not heard, and do they not believe, that the business of mankind is folly?
Are they unaware of their powerlessness in the face of Freud’s sexual determinism, Hegel’s historical determinism, Darwin’s biological determinism, Marx’s economic determinism, Skinner’s rewards and punishments determinism, and all the other determinants such as geopolitics and religion that flesh is heir to?
