She added that quantity cooking is not really new to her, since she is used to fixing a big family dinner on Sundays. In addition to her husband, she also fed her five children and their families — often as many as 22 people.
Mrs. Clark said that she loves running the snack bar, but admitted to missing the family get-together on the weekends. But now the family comes to the Antique Market to help out at the snack bar. Often several of Mrs. Clark’s 10 grandchildren can be found behind the counter helping out during busy times.
Mrs. Clark was quick to add that “I really enjoy doing it. . . I see so many people and get to talk with them. I’ve even seen a couple of old friends whom I hadn’t seen in many years. The people who work here are so nice, too. Peggy and Arthur (Smith, who own the Antique Market) have been a big help. They both pitch in when I get busy.”
Mrs. Clark also credited her husband Amos with helping to make the snack bar a success. “He bones the chicken (for salad), slices the beef (for barbecue) and cleans and cuts up vegetables. . . he even cooks Sunday dinners now. I couldn’t do it without him — we really work together.”
